# Edit an element

Select website elements and change their design directly or with AI.

## Select and edit

- Open a built website in the studio and choose Select. Click a heading, image, button or section in the preview. Select parent to edit its container.
- Use Layout, Appearance, Typography, Dimensions and Spacing to change flex/grid layout, alignment, colors, backgrounds, borders, fonts, sizes, padding and margins. Changes preview immediately.
- Choose All sizes, Desktop (over 1024px), Tablet (641–1024px) or Mobile (up to 640px). A viewport-specific value overrides All sizes.
- Save draft creates an immutable revision. Reset element clears its saved overrides. Closing unsaved edits offers Save, Discard or Keep editing. Publish separately after reviewing.

## Describe the change

In Change with AI, describe the selected element's design. Paid plans send its exact target to the existing credit-funded builder, which builds and verifies the result. Save or discard direct changes first. Direct edits use no model calls or AI credits.

On Free, Copy request for my agent gives your connected external AI the selected target and request. The agent reads get_site and get_revision, preserves the complete current source and existing overrides, and submits the change with submit_source. This uses your external AI, not BuildASite generation.

## Agent contract

Source submissions optionally accept elementOverrides: up to 100 unique route/selector targets, each with an 8-character fingerprint and styles for all, desktop, tablet and mobile. Use the exact target copied from the inspector. Omit the field to preserve current overrides; send [] to clear them. Preserve unrelated entries. See the submit_source API schema for allowed properties.

> This fingerprint is an example. Copy a real target from your site. Structural or text changes can make a target stale; reselect rather than guessing. Arbitrary CSS, scripts and background URLs are refused. Managed form/calendar interiors and third-party iframe contents use their own settings; edit their outer container here.
